
There is no denying that Shohei Ohtani is a generational talent in Major League Baseball.
The reigning Most Valuable Player from 2023 is having another brilliant season in 2024 for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
2024 has already been a historic season for Ohtani as he became the first player with 50 stolen bases and 50 home runs in a single season.
He is also closing in on another historic stat.
According to Baseball Reference on ‘X,’ ESPN LA’s Blake Harris points out how close Ohtani is to joining elite company in Major League Baseball history.

Ohtani’s currently sitting at a career best 396 total bases on the 2024 season.
In Major League Baseball history, only 18 players have ever reached the 400 total bases mark in a single season.
This list includes some elite company and household names that most baseball fans will recognize.
Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Todd Helton all reside in the 400+ total base club, and Ohtani is looking to join them with 4 games remaining this season.
On the year, Ohtani is batting .303 with 53 home runs, 125 runs batted in, 56 stolen bases, 396 total bases, and a 1.027 on base plus slugging percentage.
Ohtani appears to be a heavy favorite to win his second straight Most Valuable Player title in 2024 as the Dodgers prepare for the postseason.
All eyes will be on Ohtani as the Dodgers conclude their series with the San Diego Padres on Thursday and begin their final series of the season on Friday against the Colorado Rockies.
The final series in Colorado could be a big one as Ohtani will gain the benefit of elevation to end the 2024 season.
