The Baltimore Orioles made the postseason for a second straight season after finishing with a record of 91-71 and coming in second in the American League East.
Although the Orioles have had back-to-back good regular seasons, they again failed to win a game in the postseason as they were swept in the wild-card series.
This offseason, the Orioles made multiple moves but lost some key players who helped them have success.
Though they acquired a couple of new players, the Orioles lost starting pitcher Corbin Burnes, outfielder Anthony Santander, and now starting pitcher John Means.
Means released a statement on X after signing with the Cleveland Guardians.
“I want to thank everyone who makes this organization what it is, from the front office to the clubhouse staff, the coaches, the trainers, the ushers in the stadium, and of course the fans,” Means wrote.
Means has played all seven seasons of his MLB career with the Orioles.
In 2024, he started four games and was 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched.
Though Means didn’t pitch much last season, he thanked the Orioles fans and the entire organization for allowing him to live out his dream of playing Major League Baseball.
Means will now move on to the Guardians, where he hopes to stay healthy and get back to starting 20 or more games, as he did earlier in his career.
In 2021, the last season he started more than 20 games, Means started 26 games and was 6-9 with a 3.62 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 146.2 innings pitched.
