The Boston Red Sox endured a disappointing season in 2024 as they finished with a record of 81 wins and 81 losses.
They finished in 3rd place in the American League East division and did not make the postseason.
More difficult news was released on Tuesday as Red Sox legendary pitcher Luis Tiant passed away at the age of 83.
According to Red Sox on ‘X,’ the Red Sox released a statement on the passing of Luis Tiant.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Luis Tiant.
Anyone who met him, on or off the mound, knew he was a true force. A fixture of Fenway and Fort Myers well beyond his playing days, El Tiante was family.
We send our love to his wife, Maria, their children, and grandchildren. pic.twitter.com/idhRVDc76P

The Red Sox’s statement included expressing how deeply saddened they are by the loss of Tiant and they expressed their condolences to Tiant’s wife, children, and grandchildren.
Tiant came into the league in 1964 with the then-Cleveland Indians, which was the first of six total teams that he played for.
He did not play his first season for the Red Sox until 1971, and he played with the club until 1978.
The 2-time all-star for the Red Sox had 20+ wins as a starting pitcher in 3 different seasons, 2 of which he made the all-star teams in 1974 and 1976.
His best statistical season for the Red Sox came in 1972 when he had a record of 15 wins and 6 losses with a 1.91 earned run average with 123 strikeouts in 179.0 innings pitched.
Tiant was unable to win a World Series in the club with the closest he got was a loss in the 1975 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds in game 7.
The Red Sox organization and all of baseball are saddened by the death of a great player, and everybody wishes the best for his family in this tough time.
