The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for a third straight season after finishing with a record of 81-81 and coming in third in the American League East.
After winning the World Series in 2018, the Red Sox have made one playoff appearance, which came in 2021 when they lost in the American League Championship Series.
The Red Sox have nine World Series titles in franchise history, and have won four titles since 2004, but the past few seasons have been a struggle.
After missing the playoffs again, the Red Sox made some big acquisitions this offseason, including starting pitcher Garrett Crochet, starting pitcher Walker Buehler and third baseman Alex Bregman.
Current Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers sent a clear message when asked if he would solely be the DH in 2025.
“No,” Devers said, via FOX Sports: MLB.
Rafael Devers was adamant that third base is his position. When asked if he’d be open to being the DH, he gave a simple no.

Devers debuted in 2017 with the Red Sox and has played all eight seasons of his MLB career for them.
In 2024, he played in 138 games and batted .272 with 28 home runs, 83 RBIs and an .871 OPS.
Devers made it very clear he intends to play third base this season, even with the acquisition of Bregman.
The 28-year-old has been one of the best hitters for the Red Sox since making his MLB debut, and he will be a big part of the offense again in 2025.
It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox navigate the issue of having two third basemen and whether or not they move one of them to a different position on the infield.
