The Baltimore Orioles appeared to be poised for a long postseason run entering the 2024 playoffs.
After finishing the season with a record of 91 wins and 71 losses, the Orioles went into the postseason as the number 1 wild-card team in the American League.
In their first postseason series, the Orioles were swept by the Kansas City Royals where they scored a total of 1 run in the 2 games combined.
After another dud postseason performance by the team, they decided to make some changes heading into the 2025 season.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Orioles fired 3 coaches including bench coach Fredi Gonzalez, co-hitting coach Ryan Fuller, and coach Jose Hernandez following the poor postseason performance.

It is not uncommon to see teams make some personnel firings following a tough season or postseason.
The Orioles will look to fill the positions ahead of the 2025 season in hopes of a fresh start.
Offensively, the Orioles had their bright spots, but this also included struggles at times in areas such as hitting with runners in scoring position or simply relying on the home run to produce runs.
These flawed offensive strategies were exposed in the wild-card series against the Royals where the only run they scored in 2 games was from a Cedric Mullins solo home run.
Changes to the coaching staff will be an attempt by the Orioles to develop a better offensive strategy that can be repeated easier than relying on home runs game after game.
The Orioles will look to correct their mistakes from 2024 and get back to the postseason for the 3rd year in a row in 2025.
