The New York Mets are in the midst of a battle to make the 2024 postseason.
Currently sitting 0.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves for the 3rd National League Wild Card spot, every game is important from here on out.
With this battle to get into the playoff picture, the Mets got some hopeful news regarding one of their best starting pitchers.
According to SNY on ‘X,’ the Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns says he is optimistic that Kodai Senga will return this season.

Senga has only appeared in 1 game this season for the Mets before suffering a high-grade calf strain and being put on the injured list.
It was initially thought that Senga would be out for the entire season after this injury, but Stearns’ statement gives hope to Mets fans.
Stearns seems to say that if there are no setbacks with Senga’s rehabbing, then he should be pitching with the team again this year.
Senga came into the league from Japan in 2023 where he started 29 games for the Mets.
His stats in 2023 included 12 wins and 7 losses with a 2.98 earned run average in 166.1 innings pitched with 202 strikeouts.
In his only game pitched in 2024, Senga threw 5.1 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits and was credited with the win over the Atlanta Braves before going down with the injury.
If Senga can return this season, he could potentially help the Mets sneak into the playoffs by snagging one of the Wild Card spots available in the National League.
