Injuries in September can be a disaster for a team that is fighting to earn a playoff spot.
The New York Mets are currently a half-game back of the Atlanta Braves for the 3rd National League Wild Card spot Sunday before play has concluded.
The Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies to a score of 2-1 on Sunday, but there might be even worse news coming from this game.
According to SNY on ‘X,’ Mets All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor appears to be nursing an injury.

Lindor appeared to run gingerly to first base after a base hit in Sunday’s game.
He was removed from the game and replaced by Luisangel Acuna.
This news is devastating for the Mets as they battle for a postseason spot in 2024 as Lindor has been their best player all season.
Lindor is batting .271 on the season with 31 home runs, 86 runs batted in, and an .836 on-base plus slugging percentage.
He has been so important to this Mets team that he has found himself in the Most Valuable Player conversation for the American League.
It is unclear on the specifics of the injury or whether it will involve a trip to the injured list.
If a trip to the injured list is needed, the Mets will be forced to try and claw their way into the 2024 postseason without their All-Star shortstop.
Mets fans will be monitoring the situation closely for news on Lindor in hopes that the injury is not severe enough to cause him to miss any time.
