The New York Yankees are advancing to their first American League Championship Series since 2022 after defeating the Kansas City Royals by a score of 3-1 on Thursday.
With the 3-1 series win over the Royals, the Yankees will await the winner of game 5 between the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
Clay Holmes was the Yankees closer for most of the season as he recorded 30 saves in 2024.
After a period of struggles by Homes, he was demoted, and the Yankees lacked a clear closer in their rotation.
The game 4 save went to Luke Weaver, and Weaver had some powerful comments following sending his team to the American League Championship Series.
“I’m living in a movie, and I want to make sure the ending is pretty good, and I want to be able to rewatch it,” Weaver said.

Weaver had an exceptional year for the Yankees where he appeared in 62 games and held a 2.89 earned run average with 103 strikeouts in 84.0 innings pitched.
Additionally, Weaver did have 4 saves in the regular season, so he had at least a little experience in the role.
In the 4 games against the Royals in the ALDS, Weaver appeared 4 times throwing 4.1 innings and allowing 2 hits and 0 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.
It appears that Weaver has solidified the closer role moving forward in the postseason as the Yankees prepare for the American League Championship Series.
Game 1 against either the Guardians or the Tigers is set to start on Monday at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees are seeking their first World Series title since 2009.
