The Los Angeles Angels missed the postseason for a 10th straight season after finishing with a record of 63-99 and coming in last in the American League West.
Though the Angels have had some big-name players on their roster in recent years, including Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, they have not made the playoffs since 2014.
In an attempt to get back to a competitive level, the Angels have made plenty of moves this offseason.
Some notable acquisitions include starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, outfielder Jorge Soler and relief pitcher Kenley Jansen.
MLB analyst Buster Olney recently pointed out that Jansen could make MLB history this season.
“Kenley Jansen will be the Angels’ closer. He’s 31 saves removed from tying Lee Smith for third place on the all-time leaderboard, at 478,” Olney wrote on X.

Jansen debuted in 2010 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has played for three teams in his 15-year Major League Baseball career.
In 2024 with the Boston Red Sox, Jansen appeared in 54 games and was 4-2 with a 3.29 ERA, 27 saves and 62 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched.
It appears that the 37-year-old still has the stuff to be the ninth-inning guy for the Angels, and he is 32 saves away from taking over third place in history.
The Angels hope to give Jansen plenty of save opportunities as the team arguably has more talent than it has had in recent years.
