In 2024, Major League Baseball has taken major steps forward in the analytics portion of the game.
Analytics have become regularly used in just about every major sport today.
The analytics used in Major League Baseball include a variety of different things such as exit velocity and launch angle of home runs and spin rate on a pitcher’s pitches.
Teams around the league have been using analytics for a while, but the Chicago White Sox seemed to have fallen behind in this department.
According to The Athletic’s Senior MLB reporter Britt Ghiroli, the White Sox have a huge conflict within the organization over the approach the team takes regarding analytics.

It is pretty common knowledge at this point just how bad the White Sox season has been in 2024.
With a record of 36 wins and 117 losses, the White Sox are having one of the worst seasons in MLB history.
The dilemma involving analytics, and the use of these analytics could have contributed to the series of events leading up to this horrid season.
While most teams pay a third party to provide them with stadium-adjusted analytics, the White Sox internal team invented their own set of analytic adjustments.
This caused some people in the White Sox organization to use one set of data, while others would use the other set of data.
The discrepancy in what set of data used made evaluating, claiming, drafting, and developing players difficult.
With no one reason being the cause of the White Sox’s abysmal season, this analytic conflict could have played a part in it.
