The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time in the last three seasons after finishing with a record of 74-88 and coming in last in the American League East.
While the Blue Jays made the playoffs in the two prior seasons, they failed to win a single playoff game in those appearances.
Things didn’t get much better for the Blue Jays this offseason as they attempted to land some star players, including Juan Soto, Roki Sasaki and Corbin Burnes, but failed to bring in any of them.
Though the Blue Jays did sign outfielder Anthony Santander from the Baltimore Orioles, they could potentially lose star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently revealed his thoughts about the failed contract extension talks between Guerrero and the Blue Jays.
“The Jays had every ability, every chance to do this earlier, and they should have done it earlier when they could have got him for a lot less,” Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory.

Rosenthal goes back to the 2021 season when he thinks the Blue Jays should have signed Guerrero to an extension, but they perhaps didn’t see the value in him.
Guerrero is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2025 season and trade rumors have been swirling.
It appears that because the Blue Jays have failed to extend Guerrero, it seems possible he will be traded at some point.
Guerrero is coming off of an All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in 2025.
