The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason in 2024 after finishing with a record of 74-88 and in last place in the American League East.
After a disappointing season, the Blue Jays made a couple of notable acquisitions this offseason, including adding outfielder Anthony Santander from the Baltimore Orioles.
The Blue Jays were pursuing other big-name players, including Roki Sasaki, Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes, but they failed to bring in any of them.
It also appears the Blue Jays could be on the verge of losing star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., as they failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension.
Guerrero recently opened up about the negotiations.
“We did not get an agreement today. They have their numbers, I have my numbers,” Guerrero said through an interpreter, via MLB Network.

Guerrero has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.
In 2024, he played in 159 games and batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs and a .940 OPS.
Guerrero is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2025 season, but the Blue Jays were pursuing an extension with him before that happens.
With the reports of failed contract negotiations, Guerrero may be traded before or during the season.
It will be interesting to see how the situation plays out in Toronto, as Guerrero is 25 years old and likely in the prime of his career.
