The San Diego Padres made the postseason for the first time since 2022 as they finished with a record of 93-69 and came in second place in the National League West.
Although the Padres won over 90 games, they still finished behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who took the NL West title and ended up winning the World Series.
The Padres went into the offseason and made some notable acquisitions to help their team in 2025, including starting pitcher Nick Pivetta.
Trade rumors have been swirling around Padres starting pitchers Dylan Cease and Michael King, but former MLB GM Jim Bowden revealed why the team didn’t trade either player.
“They never got an offer they liked; they never got an offer they were considering,” Bowden said via Foul Territory on ‘X.’

Both Cease and King are highly talented starting pitchers, and the Padres would likely have wanted a haul in return for either of them.
In 2024, Cease started 33 games for the Padres, where he held a record of 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched.
King appeared in 31 games for the Padres in 2024, which included 30 starts, where he held a record of 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA and 201 strikeouts in 173.2 innings pitched.
The addition of Pivetta will give the Padres four solid starting pitchers in their rotation, including Cease, King, Yu Darvish, and Pivetta.
In 2024 with the Boston Red Sox, Pivetta appeared in 27 games, which included 26 starts, where he held a record of 6-12 with a 4.14 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 145.2 innings pitched.
The Padres will try to win their first NL West title since 2006, but that will involve defeating the stacked Dodgers team.
