The San Diego Padres got themselves back in the postseason in 2024 after missing the playoffs in 2023, as they finished with a record of 93-69 and came in second place in the National League West.
Although the Padres had a hot start to the postseason, they lost to their division rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the National League Division Series.
The Padres had a relatively quiet offseason as their notable acquisitions include starting pitcher Nick Pivetta, first baseman Connor Joe, and outfielder Jason Heyward.
With trade talks swirling about Padres starting pitcher Dylan Cease, MLB Analyst Chris Young urges the team to keep their roster intact for the 2025 season.
“I love what they have as a team. I think this is a team that’s capable of winning the World Series, how they’re built right now,” Young said via MLB Network on ‘X.’

Cease played his first season for the Padres in 2024 after playing the previous five seasons for the Chicago White Sox.
In 2024, Cease started 33 games where he held a record of 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched.
Young believes that the Padres can not only get past the Dodgers in the postseason but win a World Series title with the roster they have at the moment.
The Padres haven’t won an NL West title since 2006, largely because the Dodgers reside in the same division.
Keeping Cease on the roster would go a long way to not only competing for a division title but also taking out the Dodgers in the postseason if necessary.
