The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason in 2024 after finishing with a record of 74-88 and coming in last in the American League East.
After the disappointing season, the Blue Jays were in the market for some big-name players, including Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes and Roki Sasaki, but the biggest name they acquired was Anthony Santander.
It was disappointing for the Blue Jays to miss out on the players that they did this offseason, but now they have a new issue to focus on as star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is set to be a free agent at the end of the 2025 season.
Former MLB general manager Steve Phillips said he believes that could put Guerrero on the trade block this year.
“If you don’t get him signed, then you have to consider the possibility of trading him at the deadline,” Phillips said, via MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.

Although the Blue Jays reside in one of the toughest divisions in baseball, their 2024 performance was disappointing after making the playoffs the previous two seasons.
Guerrero has led the Blue Jays offense since his debut in 2019.
In 2024, he played in 159 games and batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs and a .940 OPS.
Guerrero will be a player to watch this season as he could be traded if an extension can’t be reached by the trade deadline.
The Blue Jays will look to get past the wild-card round in the postseason for the first time since 2016.
