The Los Angeles Dodgers won their eighth World Series title in franchise history after defeating the New York Yankees.
After finishing the season with a record of 98-64 and winning the National League West title, the Dodgers dominated the postseason and claimed the title.
The offseason has seen the Dodgers continue to improve their roster as they acquired Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, and Roki Sasaki.
While the new players are always exciting, the Dodgers also brought back their long-time ace Clayton Kershaw.
MLB Analyst Bob Nightengale revealed the details of Kershaw’s new deal with the Dodgers.
“Clayton Kershaw’s 1 year, $7.5 million contract is official with the Dodgers,” Nightengale said via his personal ‘X’ account.
Clayton Kershaw’s 1 year, $7.5 million contract is official with the Dodgers.
He can also earn $8.5 million in performance bonuses, which would make the contract worth $16 million; $500k more than fellow future Hall of Famers Max Scherzer and $1M more than Justin Verlander.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) February 13, 2025
Nightengale revealed that Kershaw could also earn up to $8.5 million in performance bonuses, which would have him making more than similar aged and skilled pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
Kershaw came into the league in 2008 with the Dodgers and has played all 17 seasons of his MLB career with the team.
In 2024, Kershaw only started seven games where he held a record of 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 30.0 innings pitched.
Although the ace had injury issues in 2024, his 2023 season included 24 starts where he held a record of 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 131.2 innings pitched.
The Dodgers have loads of talent in their starting rotation, and it will be interesting to see how they choose to sort through them all when it comes to innings this season.
While the Dodgers have eight World Series titles, they have never won back-to-back titles, but they will try to change that in 2025.
