The New York Mets are coming off their best postseason performance since going to the World Series in 2015.
After finishing the regular season with a record of 89-73 and coming in second in the National League East, the Mets made a run to the National League Championship Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This offseason, the Mets made some big moves, including signing free agent Juan Soto to a 15-year deal worth $765 million.
Bringing in Soto was huge for the Mets, but they also were able to keep power-hitting first baseman Pete Alonso.
Mets broadcaster Ron Darling revealed that he believes Alonso could have a standout season in 2025.
“He’s going to have [Francisco] Lindor and Soto on base seemingly every time he comes up, so this could be a record-breaking year for Pete,” Darling said, via MLB Network.

Alonso has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.
In 2024, he played in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs and a .788 OPS.
Alonso is well-known for his two Home Run Derby titles, and Darling said Alonso could have a record-breaking year in 2025 if his power numbers remain the same.
The Mets brought back Alonso on a two-year deal after a long offseason process when it appeared they couldn’t agree on a number for the contract.
Alonso will be a player to watch in the 2025 season as the Mets lineup appears loaded with talent.
