The New York Mets were one of the more surprising teams in the 2024 postseason as they made a run to the National League Championship Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Although they lost in the NLCS, the Mets defeated both the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies as underdogs in the previous two series.
The offseason saw the Mets make a huge splash move as they signed the top free agent in the 2024 class, Juan Soto, to a 15-year deal worth $765 million.
Along with Soto, the Mets re-signed first baseman Pete Alonso and acquired outfielder Jose Siri.
With the addition of Soto, Mets veteran catcher Francisco Alvarez made a bold statement about the team’s lineup for 2025.
“I think we are better than the Dodgers lineup,” Alvarez said via B/R Walk-Off on ‘X.’

The Mets made a Cinderella postseason run in 2024, and getting so close to a World Series appearance may have Alvarez overestimating their lineup’s abilities.
While the Mets will likely have a solid lineup, the Dodgers lineup consists of star power up and down the batting order, including reigning MVP Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and company.
Alvarez came into the league in 2022 with the Mets and has played all three seasons of his MLB career with the team.
In 2024, Alvarez played in 100 games, where he batted .237 with 11 home runs, 47 RBIs, and a .710 OPS.
The Dodgers have now been called out by Alvarez, and it will be interesting to see if the Mets lineup can keep up with the numbers that the Dodgers lineup will likely put up.
