The San Diego Padres are having an exceptional season in 2024 as they seek a playoff spot.
With their win Sunday 4-2 over the Chicago White Sox, the Padres hold a 3.5-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks for the top wild-card spot in the National League.
The Padres are still in it when it comes to winning the National League West as they are 3 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers with 6 games to play.
The win on Sunday was significant in another way as the Padres accomplished something for the first time in many years.
According to MLB Insider Bob Nightengale, the Padres accomplished their first 90-win season since 2010.
It's the Padres' first 90-win season since 2010.
It's the White Sox's first 120-loss season ever, tying the '62 Mets for the most losses in MLB history.

The win on Sunday improves the Padres record to 90 wins and 66 losses, which marks their first 90-win season since 2010 when they went 90-72.
If the Padres can hold on to their playoff spot, it will be their first playoff appearance since 2022 and only their 3rd in the last 18 seasons.
The Padres had 5 all-stars in 2024 including Jurickson Profar, Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, Luis Arraez, and Robert Suarez.
Along with their all-stars, the Padres also have big names such as Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts, and Jake Cronenworth on their roster.
With all of this firepower, the Padres are primed to make a run in the 2024 postseason and will look to close out the regular season strong.
The Padres have never won a World Series title, but the team they have this year might be their best chance in a long time to win it all.
