The New York Mets can smell the 2024 postseason as the regular winds down this September.
Currently sitting tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2nd wild-card spot in the National League, the Mets are in a prime position to make the playoffs.
With the team’s leader and spokesperson Francisco Lindor banged up with a back injury and missing a few games, the Mets held a meeting before Monday’s game.
Another star player for the Mets had a powerful message for the team during this meeting.
According to MLB Network insider Joel Sherman, Pete Alonso addressed his team Monday saying, “Let’s win, get in, and celebrate.”

Alonso is known for his home run derby trophies, but he is also a leader and huge part of this Mets team.
In the 2024 season, Alonso is batting .246 with 33 home runs, 86 runs batted in, and a .803 on-base plus slugging percentage.
After joining the Mets in 2019, Alonso has only made one postseason appearance with the team which came back in 2022 where they lost in the wild-card round.
The team was not able to do much celebrating in 2022 as they did not know where they would fall until the last game of the regular season.
As of September 19th, the Mets magic number is 9 to make the postseason which will make every game from here on out important.
The Mets also hold the tiebreaker over the Diamondbacks and will decide the tiebreaker over the Atlanta Braves in their final regular season series.
Alonso will look to be the spark as Lindor is injured and try to get his team to experience the champagne showers.
