The Chicago Cubs appear like they are going to miss the 2024 postseason.
With their win on Friday over the Nationals, the Cubs have a record of 79 wins and 75 losses.
They are 9.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central and 6.5 games out of a wild-card spot.
The Brewers have owned the National League Central as they have won the division 3 of the last 4 years.
According to Marquee Sports Network on ‘X,’ Cubs manager Craig Counsell commented on the gap between the Brewers and the Cubs.
"I think the message sent really is that there's a big gap. I mean, they're ahead of us by a lot."

Counsell describes how the talented Brewers team have pulled away from the other teams in the division the last 2 seasons.
The Brewers finished the 2023 season with a 9-game lead over the second-place Cubs in the National League Central, and the standings appear like they will be similar this season.
Even with the loss of Brewers star player Christian Yelich, their 9.5-game lead over the Cubs is the biggest gap between 1st and 2nd place teams in any division in baseball.
The Cubs haven’t made the playoffs since 2020, and even their manager says that they have a lot of ground to make up if they want another division title.
On the bright side for Cubs fans, the Brewers are yet to win their first World Series title while the Cubs have 3 with the most recent coming back in 2016.
The Cubs will look to end their 2024 season strong and identify any possible improvements to prepare to challenge the Brewers in 2025 for the National League Central.
