The Cardinals have a record of 81 wins and 78 losses thus far in 2024, which has them 7 games back of a National League wild-card spot and officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Player development plays a major role in successful teams, and the Cardinals were once one of the best in this aspect.
Recent history has seen the Cardinals fall behind in this category, and it is now necessary to take a step back to fix the problem.
Chaim Bloom will have the responsibility of hiring a new director of player development for the Cardinals, and fans might have to wait a while before contending again.
It appears as if 2025 will be a rebuilding season for the Cardinals and expectations won’t be very high until the player development problem is addressed.
Before missing the playoffs the past 2 seasons, the Cardinals made the postseason 9 times in the last 12 seasons.
This included a 2011 World Series title where they beat the Texas Rangers in 7 games.
There is always the possibility of the team defying the odds in 2025, but as of now, it looks like the Cardinals are in full rebuild mode.
