The Detroit Tigers seem to have taken on the role of the 2024 Cinderella story, but the New York Mets are making a case of their own.
It took a doubleheader on the last day of the regular season for the Mets to clinch their postseason spot in 2024.
The Mets beat the Braves in game 1 of the doubleheader to clinch a wild-card spot, and they followed that up with a 2-1 series win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild-card series.
Most people will think of Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso when they think of the Mets offense, but another player on their roster had an incredible regular season.

Olney points out that the last player to bat at least .320 in a season after not being in the MLB the year prior was Moises Alou back in the year 2000.
In 2024, Iglesias batted .337 with 4 home runs, 26 runs batted in, and a .830 on-base plus slugging percentage in 85 games.
Iglesias has been in the league since 2011 when he came in with the Boston Red Sox.
The Mets are the 7th team that Iglesias has played for in his career, and he appears to be making the most out of his opportunity.
Iglesias has struggled a bit in the 2024 postseason as he has 3 hits in 18 at-bats through 4 games, but the Mets are still winning, and that is all that matters.
Game 2 against the Phillies will take place on Sunday where the Mets will look to continue their own Cinderella Story.
