Alex Cora Says Red Sox Will Thank Yankees Pitcher If They Make Playoffs

The Boston Red Sox currently sit on the outside looking in when it comes to making the 2024 postseason.

With a record of 75 wins and 75 losses, the Red Sox sit 12 games back of the New York Yankees in the American League East.

They also sit 4.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins for the 3rd Wild Card spot in the American League.

Although they are not currently in line to make the postseason, the Red Sox manager reveals who to thank if they do sneak into the playoffs.

According to Yankees beat writer Gary Phillips, Red Sox manager Alex Cora says they will thank Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole for getting them going.

Not only does Cora say that they will thank Cole if the Red Sox make the playoffs, but he also says they would like to face Cole in the postseason.

Cole pitched against the Red Sox on September 14th where he ended up taking the loss.

His stat line included 4.1 innings pitched allowing 7 earned runs on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out only 2.

This was a big win for the Red Sox as they defeated the reigning Cy Young award-winning pitcher and division rival.

Beating a notoriously dominant pitcher is always a good feeling for a team even when they are not sitting in a playoff position.

The Red Sox will have their work cut out for them if they want to make the postseason in 2024, but Cora seems to think this game could spark a run to end the regular season.
